Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher

This program is a federally funded rent-subsidy program that provides ongoing rental assistance to qualified lower-income families or individuals.

Participants lease privately owned single-family homes, town homes, apartments, and manufactured homes. Eligible families or individuals must complete a preliminary application to be placed on the waiting list for assistance. At this time, our Section 8 waiting list is closed. Time and date for waiting list openings will be posted in local media outlets. If you have a voucher and want to move to James City County please see the list of apartment complexes that accept Section 8 and contact Carrie Daniels at 757-259-5350.

Landlords and property managers who lease more than four units are not allowed to refuse prospective tenants solely because they participate in a voucher subsidy program. This provision falls under the Virginia Fair Housing Act. You can find complete information regarding the Virginia Fair Housing Act here.
