The Ultimate Checklist for a Fun Holiday Season

Holiday checklist

With all the sparkle and stress of the holidays, we have put together the ultimate checklist for a fun holiday season in James City County.

  1. Buy your fresh Christmas tree at MillFarm Christmas Trees & Berry Farm. The Apperson family farm is located at 4900 Fenton Mill Road and is open on weekends.
  2. Get your shopping done locally. James City County has a variety of specialty stores, unique shopping opportunities and local stores. There is also great shopping at New Town Williamsburg and the Williamsburg Premium Outlets.
  3. Pick up traditional holiday ham at Edwards Ham Shop of Williamsburg or take the road less traveled and pick up some Jamón (imported dried and cured ham) from the La Tienda Market on Jamestown Road.
  4. Grab a bottle of Jamestown Cellars Settlers' Spiced Wine from the Williamsburg Winery. This adult beverage has a red wine base that is infused with cinnamon, nutmeg, ginger, clove and allspice and is perfect during the holidays.
  5. Let someone else do your baking for you! Pick up sweet treats for the holiday at Carrot Tree Kitchens or grab a pie from Charly’s Airport Restaurant, Old Chickahominy House or Jamestown Pie Company. If cake is on your list, stop by Cakealicious or Smallcakes.
  6. Enjoy breakfast, lunch or dinner at Victoria’s Restaurant, which has more than 200 nutcrackers on display during the holiday season. This is something you’ll want to see for yourself. It’s one of the largest displays of nutcrackers in our area.
  7. Pick out a holiday event or two and enjoy a special evening with family and friends. There are both free and ticketed events on our list of holiday events.
  8. Feel the holiday cheer with locally made beer by visiting Billsburg Brewery, the first craft brewery in James City County.
  9. Experience the more than 8 million lights of Busch Gardens® Christmas Town™. This is the largest display of Christmas lights in North America and a great experience for the whole family.
  10. Learn during “A Colonial Christmas” at Jamestown Settlement, which offers a glimpse of 17th- and 18th-century holiday traditions through interpretive programs and demonstrations. Festivities abound Dec. 23-31 with daily appearances by the Lord of Misrule and period musical entertainment.
