Cheap Eats in JCC According to TripAdvisor

CheapEats.png

We love reading reviews of places and one of our favorite spots for checking out reviews is TripAdvisor. We thought it would be fun to check out the best “cheap eats” according to TripAdvisor. Cheap eats are categorized as costing between $5-10 and are typically fast and casual.

Duck Donuts

With more than 500 reviews, Duck Donuts is the highest ranking cheap eats in James City County. Located in the Monticello Marketplace Shoppes, Duck Donuts is open from daily beginning at 6 a.m. Known for their fresh, warm vanilla cake donuts, Duck Donuts are fresh and made to order with a variety of glaze coatings, toppings and even drizzle. The combo of two donuts and a coffee is under $5. For a truly decadent treat, you can try a sundae made with a warm donut.

Many of the reviews indicate how surprised people were at the “melt in your mouth” quality of the fresh donuts.  Other reviews indicate how friendly and helpful the staff is for people ordering for the first time. We agree – deciding what flavors you will combine can be a little tricky. Are you in the mood for adventure? We suggest the maple glaze and bacon. If you like things classic, just chocolate glaze is the way to go.

Duck Donuts also has a Certificate of Excellence from TripAdvisor. Per the TripAdvisor website, “TripAdvisor gives a Certificate of Excellence to accommodations, attractions and restaurants that consistently earn great reviews from travelers.”

New York Deli & Pizza

Coming in with just under 300 reviews, New York Deli & Pizza has something for everyone on their menu that includes authentic New York-style sandwiches, subs and pizza. New York Deli & Pizza has been open for more than 10 years and is family owned and operated. Many of the reviews indicate that the portions are large (enough for leftovers) and that it’s a “must stop.”

The menu has more than 20 different subs available, thin or pan pizza and even has Italian and Greek specialties. We would like to note that these specialty menu items are slightly out of the cheap eats zone, but the majority of the menu is under $10.

New York Deli & Pizza also has a Certificate of Excellence from TripAdvisor and they have been voted “Best in Williamsburg” for the last 10 years.

Blaze Pizza

As a newer restaurant in James City County, Blaze Pizza has just over 50 reviews on TripAdvisor, but they rank high due to the quality of ingredients and the speed as to which orders are ready. Per their website, “Fresh, made-from-scratch dough. Healthful, artisanal ingredients on the assembly line. Inventive to classic. You decide. Blazing hot oven + dedicated pizzasmith + 180 seconds = fast-fire’d, perfectly crisp perfection.”

We like the “create your own option” where you can top your pizza with whatever you crave.

Five Forks Café

With more than 300 reviews, Five Forks Café has been in James City County for over 35 years serving up classics made right on the spot for diners. Five Forks Café is open six days a week for breakfast, lunch and dinner. The diner is closed on Mondays. There are daily specials as well as weekend brunch specials. On weekends, Five Forks Café serves up gluten free pancakes upon request. Tuesday is Burger Night and all gourmet burgers are buy one get one half off!

Five Forks Café also has a Certificate of Excellence from TripAdvisor.

TripAdvisor did not sponsor this post, we just think it’s a great travel resource. Keep in mind that rankings change at any given time based on reviews! We will round up different restaurants in future posts. Share your suggestions with us on Facebook or email us at tourism@jamescitycountyva.gov.
