Get Moving in 2017

Run2.png

Over the last several years, there has been a rise in athletic events and competitive athletics in JCC. If your New Year’s Resolution was to get moving and be more active, check out these athletic events in 2017.

Feb. 4 – Toano Icy 8K, Frosty 5K and Fun Run

Cost is $30 until Jan. 27 for 8K/5K and $15 for the Fun Run

Great course in Toano (fairly flat loop) with a 10 a.m. start time.  Plenty of great food from local sponsors and awards after inside Toano Middle School. This race benefits the mini grant program for Toano Middle School.

March 25 – Jamestown 4-H Discovery Run 10K and Fun Run

Cost is $30 for 10K and $10 for the Fun Run

A beautiful, historic, scenic, varied and almost totally flat course combining three of the Williamsburg area's finest trails-the Virginia Capital Trail, the Powhatan Creek Trail and the Greensprings Trail. The 10K will start and finish at the Jamestown 4-H Center, at the end of the 4-H Club entrance road. The course is entirely paved (with a few scenic wooden bridges) except for a one-mile stretch on the well-maintained crushed-stone Greensprings Trail, and the hard-packed dirt 4-H Club Road start and finish.

April 1 – Singletrack Maniac 50K Trail Run

Cost is $55 before Feb. 28 and $65 after

Have you ever wanted to run a 50K? (That’s 31 miles!) Be one of the 150 runners in the Singletrack Maniac 50K Trail Run at Freedom Park on April 1. With a 10 hour time limit, this event has restrooms, showers and will take place rain or shine. It’s sure to be a thrill with 1,500 feet of elevation throughout the course and a rooty, twisty and challenging course.

June 10 & 11 – Jamestown Triathlon Events

Prices vary

After a swim in the James River athletes will ride through miles of rural countryside on mostly flat terrain and good pavement on June 10. Once you have laced up your running shoes you'll be treated to a flat and fast 6.2 mile run on a combination of bike paths and jogging trails. Aquabike will be available. Relay team option as well. There is a sprint version on June 11.

June 16 – REV3 Glow Run and Fun Run

Early bird registration available, 5K is up to $50 and Fun Run is up to $40

Grab your kids, your friends, your neighbors, your team and light up the night at our 5K or 1-mile Glow Run! Take to the streets in New Town in Williamsburg dressed in all things bright and shiny. Flash and sparkle your way around the course, and then cool your heels at the post-run party. Before we send everyone off glowing around the course, we will be handing out special prizes for Glow runners who are the brightest, most flashy, and most reflective. Time to get ready to GLOW!

July 9 – REV3 Triathlon

Prices vary

The event will be located at Chickahominy Riverfront Park. There will be one transition area located at Chickahominy Riverfront Park. The swim will take place in the Chickahominy River. After leaving Chickahominy Riverfront Park, athletes take a right onto Route 5 and over the Judith Stewart Dresser Memorial Bridge for a rolling ride through the rural roads of Williamsburg. The terrain is enough to give athletes time out of the saddle and to keep the ride interesting but won't overly tax your legs for the run. The entire run is on the newly completed Virginia Capital Trail, a 52-mile dedicated multi-use, paved trail connecting Richmond and Williamsburg along the historic and beautiful Route 5 corridor. After the first mile, the tall trees on either side of the trail provide ample shade for the flat run course. The bridge at the very beginning and end will provide a challenging start and finish to the run leg.

July 25 – Scares that Care 5K and Fun Run

Costs vary based on when registered up to $38

Enjoy a fun, charitable evening run on July 25. This event is part of the annual Scares that Care conference at the DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel Williamsburg. All runners receive a t-shirt and finisher medal. There is also a fun run for children. Both events are stroller and pet-friendly. You do not need to attend the conference to participate in this event!

Sept. 9 & 10 – Patriots Triathlon Events

Prices vary

After a swim in the James River athletes will ride through miles of rural countryside on mostly flat terrain and good pavement on Sept. 9. Once you have laced up your running shoes you'll be treated to a flat and fast 6.2 mile run on a combination of bike paths and jogging trails. Aquabike will be available. Relay team option as well.
